Borderlands Group participated in 10th Bagmati River Festival

Using muscles with fresh air, instead of all those computers and hectic stressful time, Borderlands Group participated in Corporate Dunga Daud/Dunga Diplomacy on 14th August, 2010 which has been jointly organized by Nepal River Conservation Trust and Sustainable Tourism Network.

The festival of 21st century “Bagmati River Festival” aims to provide a platform for all to work cohesively towards a common goal of maintaining the integrity of Rivers of Nepal. Clean up campaign, Awareness, Bagmati Eco challenge, Jal Jatra and Corporate Dung Daud/ Dunga diplomacy are targeted to making a difference by preventing further damage and loss of natural habitat along the Bagmati River as well as other Himalayan Rivers of Nepal.

The main objective of this event was to create awareness among the corporate houses and to inform them of the depleting state of the Bagmati River. As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility of all business institutions and to make them feel responsible to uplift Bagmati River, this event was largely successful. The 7 km down river race from Sundarijal to Uttarbahini temple truly proved to be a challenge and commitment to save the Bagmati river.

Team Building Program organized for the Agni Incorporation Pvt. Ltd.

The Borderlands PDP organized a half day Team Building Program for staff and dealers of Agni Incorporated on July 30, 2010. Organized in Godavari Village Resort in Godavari, The half day program saw active participation from 61 participants.

Agni Team

The main objectives of the program was to further enhance the team work skills, bonding  of the participants while ensuring that they had fun and enjoyed themselves. Ice breaking games including Hand squeeze and Human Spiral marked the beginning of the program. The participants were then sub-divided into 6 groups to make the program more effective. Slow marble run, leaky pipe, Spider web, Giant Skies, Magic Carpet and Toxic Waste were some of the games and initiatives that were included in the program.

The program came to an end after a collective debrief, certificate and T-shirt distribution, lap sitting and group photo.

Inauguration of 10th Bagmati River Festival

The 10th Bagmati River Festival was inaugurated on June 5, 2010 at Pashupati Aryaghat. The inauguration and cleanup program was addressed by Mr. Megh Ale, Founder President of NRCT, Ani Choyang Dolma, Singer and Mr. Mahesh Basnet, President- High Power Community for Integrated Bagmati Civilization. Dharma Guru’s from different religion present on the occasion talked about the importance of Bagmati and Rivers on their respective religions.

The collective water from different rivers was poured off in to the Bagmati River with a commitment of reviving Bagmati to its original state. The inauguration program also included group prayer by different Dharma Gurus. The program was concluded with the cleanup of Aryaghat. The peaceful ambience, lighting by Panchakanyas at the Aryaghat and song by Ani Choyang Dolma were some of the highlights of the Program.

upBorderlands PDP, one of its kind in Nepal with years of experience in the training field, organized a program for participants from Mercedes Benz- India on April 22, 2010. The day long program saw active participation from all the 30 participants. Rafting on the Trishuli River, trip to the Manakamana Temple, icebreaker exercises and some Team Building games and initiatives were the main highlights of the program.

The participants said that the activities were fun, enjoyable and that the Borderlands team did an excellent job.

Trishuli is Nepal’s most popular rafting river. Easy access from Kathmandu and Pokhara, scenic valleys and impressive gorges, exhilarating rapids and easier sections as well as the right amount of time all make it the perfect trip for first-time or experienced rafters.

A birdwatching trip was organized by Nature-treks.com/ Himalaya on February 12, 2010 for two Scottish enthusiasts. The birding trip, from Godavari up to the half of Phulchowki hill, lasted for about 6 hours. During the trip, around 51 species of birds were identified including some rare and endangered ones in addition to common species of birds. Grey-sided Laughing Thrush, Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker, Red-billed Leothrix, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Yuhina Yuhina flavicollis etc. were some of the names of the birds that were sighted during the trip. The birdwatchers said that the trip added new species of birds to their existing birds list.

Phulchowki hill rises from Godavari garden and reaches the height of 2760m. It is the highest valley rim and a large number of different types of birds are found here. The forest is home to around 300 species of birds including some endangered, rare and vagrant ones.

Nature-treks.com organized the Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp Adventure, the ultimate adventure in Nepal, from November 3 to 19, 2009 for a group of 6 English people. The main highlights of this ultimate adventure trip were: the visit to the base camp of the highest mountain on Earth, four peaks over eight thousand meters (Everest, Cho Oyo, Lhotse and Makalu), Gokyo Ri: the amazing view point of Gokyo valley, the high pass Chola, Kalapathar (5545m), Khumbu Icefall, the most spectacular mountain of this area: Ama Dablam along with views of other Himalayan ranges and the age-old monasteries of Thyangboche and Khumjung.

The 21 days trip started with a sightseeing tour and hikes before the trekkers flew to Lukla. The scenic flight was followed by an easy hike to Phakdingma (2600 m). After entering the Sagarmatha national park at Monjo, the steep ascent lead to the famous Namche Bazaar. En route, the trekkers enjoyed the sights and sounds of birds like White-browed Fulveta and the Black-faced Laughing thrushes. A day at Namche Bazaar was followed by a steep ascent to Shyangboche that lead to Dole (4100 m). After spending a day each in Machhermo (4400 m), Gokyo (4790 m), Gokyo Ri (5360 m), Thangna (4680 m), Jongla (4800 m) and Labuche (4900m), they reached Gorakshep and continued on to the Everest Base Camp (5200 m). The trekkers returned to Gorakshep to spend the night. An early morning hike up to Kalapathar (5545 m) on the 14th day ensured amazing sunrise views. Kalapathar is the southern ridge of Mt. Pumori (7200m) and the view of Mount Everest is closest from Kalapathar which is very awe-inspiring. The trekkers then retraced their steps via Dugla to Dingboche (4400 m). Trekking to Chhukung valley was the plan for the next day that brought the trekkers closer to Imja Tse, a popular trekking peak. The trekkers reached Pangboche and Thyangboche on the 16th day and returned to Namche Bazaar where they spent the night in a lodge. The adventurous and remarkable trek came to an end with a trek to Lukla and then a flight back to Kathmandu. The trekkers enjoyed a free day in Kathmandu before flying off to London. This was undoubtedly the experience of a life time!

This 21 days trip to the Everest Base Camp includes 16 days of trekking with a moderate to strenuous grade. The highest point is the Kalapathar (5545 m). The trek starts from and ends at Lukla. Some of the fauna that can be sighted on this trip are: Himalayan Thar, Blue Sheep, Musk Deer, Himalayan Mouse Hare (Pica), the very rare and elusive Snow Leopard, Red Panda and Himalayan Black Bears. Himalayan Monal or Danphe the national bird of Nepal, flocks of Grandala, Yellow-billed & Red-billed Choughs, Alpine & Robin Accentors, Tibetan Snow Cock, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, Laughing Thrushes and many more species of birds can also be seen on this trip.
