Using muscles with fresh air, instead of all those computers and hectic stressful time, Borderlands Group participated in Corporate Dunga Daud/Dunga Diplomacy on 14^th August, 2010 which has been jointly organized by Nepal River Conservation Trust and Sustainable Tourism Network.

The festival of 21^st century “Bagmati River Festival” aims to provide a platform for all to work cohesively towards a common goal of maintaining the integrity of Rivers of Nepal. Clean up campaign, Awareness, Bagmati Eco challenge, Jal Jatra and Corporate Dung Daud/ Dunga diplomacy are targeted to making a difference by preventing further damage and loss of natural habitat along the Bagmati River as well as other Himalayan Rivers of Nepal.

Bagmati River Festival

The main objective of this event was to create awareness among the corporate houses and to inform them of the depleting state of the Bagmati River. As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility of all business institutions and to make them feel responsible to uplift Bagmati River, this event was largely successful. The 7 km down river race from Sundarijal to Uttarbahini temple truly proved to be a challenge and commitment to save the Bagmati river.

Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) successfully organized a River Festival at Bhotekoshi River from February 27-28, 2010. ‘River Conservation and Holi celebration with Whitewater Rafting’ was the main theme of the festival in which more than 60 participants participated. Additionally, some of the participants also enjoyed a stay at the Borderlands Eco Adventure Resort and the warm hospitality of the staff.

On the other hand, another group of people celebrated Holi (Festival of Colors) at Borderlands Eco Adventure Resort on February 28, 2010. The group reached the resort on February 27 and spent the night at the resort. Visit to Tatopani Hot Spring, short hike, and dancing were some of the highlights of the trip. The clients also enjoyed a fun-filled and colorful Holi at the resort.

Nepal tourism Year 2011

30 participants from the Borderlands Group participated in the launching of ‘Nepal Tourism Year 2011’ campaign. The campaign was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal amidst a grand function organized on February 26, 2010 at Tudikhel, Kathmandu. The inauguration ceremony saw participation from representatives of different political parties, tourism and economic sectors, private sector, sports, entertainment and ethnic communities. ‘Together for Tourism’ is the slogan of the national campaign.

16 different political parties have pledged to maintain peace and avoid strikes and bandhs in 2011 and tourism entrepreneurs are hopeful that at least a million tourists will come to Nepal during the Nepal Tourism Year 2011.

Borderlands participation in Nepal Tourism Year 2011

A day-long Staff Training Program was organized for the staff of the Borderlands Group (Borderlands Resort, Borderlands PDP, Ultimate Descents Nepal and Nature-treks.com) on November 10, 2009 at Hotel Marshyangdi in Thamel. The training program was mainly run by Mr. Wade Campbell, one of the Directors of Borderlands Group, Nepal. He is also the Managing Director of Borderlands Sri Lanka. The program included a couple of games that was aimed at improving awareness, teamwork, communication and synchronization among the Borderlands core team so that they can work together to achieve the organizational goals.

Borderlands Workshop

Various power point presentations highlighting Borderlands Sri Lanka’s marketing tactics, the various processes from approaching a client to delivering the services, and what should be offered to potential clients were also discussed during the presentation. A total of 20 managerial staff of the Borderlands Group took part in the program. Strengths and weaknesses of the company were analyzed and solutions to convert those weaknesses into plus points were sought through a brainstorming session. The program also addressed key issues of the adventure tourism industry including the importance of quality and safety. Different suggestions to enhance the company’s brand name and to take the company from good to great were also discussed during the program. In addition, a short presentation by Mr. Megh Ale, Managing Director of the Borderlands Group- Nepal and Mr. Anil Chitrakar, one of the Directors of Borderlands Resort, Nepal was included in the program.

There was active participation from the participants who highlighted the Group’s achievements so far and also provided suggestions and constructive feedback that can assist in improving the quality of service, safety measures and will assist the company in becoming the market leaders of the industry.

Though the modern day celebration of Halloween still bears traces of its Celtic origins, it has come down to a cross-cultural stew of folk traditions. The main highlight of this event, which is celebrated every year on October 31, is that people disguise themselves by wearing different costumes.
